Lantern Review of Camp Timber Tops
The shaded paths of Camp Timber Tops meander through the wooded grounds, lit at night to add a charming glow to this wonderful girls camp. The facilities are modern and well-kept, and you get the unmistakable sense that you’ve stepped into a truly happy girls camp when you walk these paths.
Take a closer look at the campers and staff and you’ll see that they have each fully embraced the unpretentious and joyful atmosphere at Timber Tops. The campers are welcomed into the camp family from the moment they arrive and they feel genuinely cared for. The fact that the camp experience begins and ends with dedicated camp counselors elevates that counselor role to top priority; it is a role that even the camp directors recognize as the most important.
Now in its fourth generation of family ownership, Timber Tops reflects a quiet confidence that’s only earned through years of experience. Within this multi-generational family-owned camp, experience in working with girls of all ages is an obvious strength. Thoughtful pre-camp training and staff supervision shares that experience among the counseling staff. The campers benefit from constant supervision, but without the constant nagging of a mother hen.
The younger campers participate as cabin groups in most of the six daily activities, though they also choose one elective activity in the morning and another in the afternoon. The senior campers’ program focuses on empowering the girls to choose their complete daily program. It’s a thoughtful progression that encourages the girls to try new activities, while allowing for increasing freedom as they get older.
Timber Tops shares a tradition of service to others, also found at its brother camp, Lake Owego, and its coed sibling, Pine Forest. The best example is the creation, development and implementation of a camp in Costa Rica by the oldest campers from all three camps each year. It’s truly an innovative idea that supports the Timber Tops values of gratitude, hard work and the joy of service to others.

Timber Tops is an extraordinary place where campers feel like the best, happiest, most confident version of themselves. It's goofy, it's fun, it's family-oriented, and you have to see it to believe it. At campfires we talk about how the stars shine brighter at Timber Tops and the people do too. We'll look forward to getting to know your family and sharing our summer home with you.
