Lantern Review of Camp Greystone
Part of the charm of the South is the ability of its people to make one feel at home; a warm smile, open arms and home cooked meals. It’s no surprise that this welcoming spirit has found its way into the camps in this part of the world, including the stand-out Camp Greystone. Founded on a family legacy that now stretches into its fourth generation, Camp Greystone is living testimony to a spiritual way of life rooted in Christian values and delivered through a vibrant camp program.
The campers of Greystone don’t stray far from the main campus here, and this is by design. Over the years, Camp Greystone has recognized the power of building community, and created their program with community front and center. In fact, meal times at Greystone have taken on an added meaning and joy, providing another key opportunity for the entire camp to be among each other, to ‘break bread” and to realize friendships.
The girls choose their activities prior to coming to camp from a wide variety of choices. Developing skills in the activities is important here; it’s not simply exposing campers to new activities. With the impressive number of high-school aged campers at Greystone, it’s clear that progression in the activities is a goal, and that campers find new challenge and success as they return year after year. It’s also this older age group that helps keep the atmosphere of Greystone very grounded. They have an eager spirit and confidence in what happens while at camp, and it permeates the program providing a wonderful comfort to the younger campers.
Camp Greystone is a Christian camp, and the short devotionals provide a daily inspiration. This is a true community of faith that’s joyfully supportive of everyone. As you walk the shaded paths of Greystone, you get the sense of a genuine, authentic place, maybe even sophisticated in a very camp way. It’s for this reason that so many campers find their way back each summer to recharge, and to connect with their faith and their friends.

I have been a camp director my whole life... my parents, my grand parents, and my great grand parents were the same. Four generations poured out without reservation for one purpose... to provide a GREAT camp experience for your daughters. Such a legacy is only built if something is good. Camp is Good. It is life changing, inspiring, fun, happy, poignant, and amazing. We practice being "good" at camp... we get closer to God as we live by His principles in this safe and beautiful place. This is what drives all of us at Greystone to do the surprising and exceptional things that we do every summer to meet the high expectations of our campers.
