Lantern Review of Point O Pines Camp
A bird’s eye view of Point O’Pines Camp for Girls suggest that this stunningly beautiful camp may be an idyllic spot to spend your summer. All of the lovely camper bunks sit lakeside along the secluded peninsula of Brant Lake in a valley of the Adirondacks. The huge beach looks more like something you’d find in the Caribbean and the recently remodeled facilities and dining hall all enjoy broad lake views.
The story of Point O’Pines is far deeper than its setting, however. Most all of the campers return year after year to renew the strong bonds of friendship that are built here. At an early age, the value of friendships is created and reinforced by the caring and dedicated counselors who reflect the attention to detail that is embraced by a team of experienced directors. At the core of the camp philosophy is an effort to create authentic relationships with their camp families. This genuine desire to know each family creates a warm loyalty to Point O’Pines.
If self-esteem and independence are two of the key values that Point O’Pines hopes to develop, the program is the tool to reach their campers. The first rate facilities are well-suited to provide the framework (witness the red-clay tennis courts and 2,700 square foot arts center.) It’s the activity specialists and bunk counselors, though, that affect the ultimate result. They are enthusiastic cheerleaders for each camper’s success. The youngest-aged campers have a more structured program that exposes each girl to the entire breadth of the activity choices, while older girls have more freedom to develop their individual passions in daily activities. It’s a thoughtful program that subtly fosters leadership and responsibility.
Point O’Pines truly becomes a summer family that renews each summer. For those with brothers at home, nearby Brant Lake Camp is the brother-camp program.
